And we’re back to meal planning, hurray! It’s been over a month since I’ve made an official meal plan because we’ve been so busy and out of town lately.  It feels really good to get back into the swing of things with meal planning and actually knowing what we’re going to have for dinner every night.

I actually did a pretty good job of makes meals on the fly the last few weeks without resorting to eating out or convenience foods like frozen pizza, so that makes me happy because I realize that I am getting better at the cooking from scratch thing, and making do with what I have on hand.  And now, my pantry is overflowing with stuff just waiting to be used for all kinds of yummy meals and homemade goodness – check this out: That’s 20+ lbs of flour, 7+ lbs of oatmeal, 5+ of brown rice, a few things I’ve never tried like barley and quinoa, dried beans, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, spices, vanilla, yeast and of course, some candy.

My good friend Jenica and I made a trip to an Amish bulk food store on Saturday and had such an amazing time buying bulk whole foods at unbelievable prices!  E&S Bulk Foods in Shipshewana, IN is definitely worth the drive if you live in this area!

Is it weird that we spent over 2 hours at this store and were so excited about it?!   As we walked around the store we both could not stop smiling. Cheap, bulk food makes us happy, I guess! Just look at this – isn’t it amazing!

Okay, here’s this week’s menu:

Monday – Pinto Beans and Rice in the crockpot, homemade cornbread

Tuesday – dinner with our small group – Hamburgers on the grill

Wednesday – Gr. Beef Curry with rice, homemade pitas

Thursday – taking dinner to a family with a new baby – not sure what I’m making yet

Friday – Grilled Tilapia for fish tacos

Saturday – Leftovers

Sunday – Brunch – scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, homemade syrup

And if you’re interested in learning more about eating whole foods on a budget, be sure to check out my giveaway this week for Real Food on a Real Budget!

I didn’t realize how much I actually got until I started putting everything away and didn’t have enough room! I had to make a whole new shelf in my cupboard for spices. I have a GREAT quinoa recipe that I need to get to you!

Ah, I haven’t been to Shipshewana in years! I grew up in Chicago, and we’d go there every fall. I remember when they used to sell cinnamon rolls at the street – LOL, does that date me?! Wish I lived close to it again, shopping there would be so much fun! Thanks for the trip back down memory lane, I needed it =)
