Green Your Weekend – The Sickness Edition

My Happy Kiddos

Like many others, we have been fighting sickness in our family the last few weeks.  Oh, how I am tired of stuffy and runny noses, coughing fits in the middle of the night, fevers, whiny and cranky kids, and just not feeling 100 percent.  It has not been the most fun time at our house lately.

So, I’ve been looking around to find natural alternatives to help us deal with our sickies.  Although I haven’t tried most of these, I am bookmarking them and making it a point to be prepared before the next sickness season!

Homemade “Vapo Rub” @ Modern Alternative Mama

Homemade Cough and Cold Syrup @ Keeper of the Home

How to Make Elderberry Syrup @ My Blessed Life

Cold Kicker Remedy @ Keeper of the Home

Garlic Soup @ Kitchen Stewardship

And of course Herbal Nurturing from Frugal Granola which is full of great natural healing recipes!

What natural remedies do you use when your family is under the weather?

Hope they get to feeling better soon! It always seems that once my kids start feeling better, that’s when I start to come down with it. I’ve been meaning to try that Homemade Vapo Rub as well as the Cold Kicker Remedy. I want to be prepared for the next round!

I looked up something the other day and found a homemade cough medicine using equal parts honey and raw apple cider vinegar. It was so easy to make and it helped break up my little one’s cough. :)
