Decluttering 100 Items in April – Update

April 15, 2011 By Emily McClements
Thank you for supporting this site with purchases made through links in this post.

It’s April 15th (Happy Tax Day!), so we’re half way through the month, and since I committed to getting rid of 100 things this month as a follow up to doing Project Simplify, I thought this would be a good time to just check in.

I cleaned out our hall closet yesterday, and on top of pulling out hats, gloves, scarves and some coats to store for the winter (I think it’s finally safe to do that), I also purged 25 more things! A couple coats of hubs and mine, several of his hats, hangers that we won’t use, and more.

It’s actually nice to open up the closet now, without fear of things spilling out, and we have room for guests coats – what a novel idea!  Too bad coat wearing season is pretty much over!

I don’t have any before pictures, but here’s my closet with a little more breathing room than it had before.

So, my grand total so far is… 50 items!  I am right on track, my garage sale pile in the basement is growing, but I definitely have lots more to do.

Next I want to tackle the hall cupboard/linen closet.  I debated if I should share a picture, but I think I’ll be more motivated to actually do it if I show you had bad it is now!

I bet I have close to 50 items just in there! That’s my project for the weekend/next week!

Here’s some more great organizing resources in case you need some motivation at this point!

Rebekah at Simply Rebekah asked if I would put up a link-up at the end of the month for those that have completed the Decluttering 100 Items in April Challenge. I’ve never done a linky before, but would definitely do it if others are interested.  Let me know in the comments if you’d like to see a link-up at the end of the month.

So, how’s your decluttering going?  How many items have you put into the garage sale/giveaway pile or gotten rid of so far?  Do you think you’ll be able to make it to 100 by the end of the month?

Haha I saw the closet before! It looked bad and the door kept popping open, but it looks great now! 🙂

I would do a link up! I only just heard about the challenge but I’m certain I could find 100 things to get rid of!

I would link up, but the problem is – I’ve been getting rid of them gradually by delivering them to the Goodwill. Do we need 100 items in a picture?! I am sure I could gather more! 🙂

No, you definitely don’t have to have all 100 items in your picture. You can just include pictures of some of the stuff you’re getting rid of, or even pictures of your newly decluttered spaces would be great!

[…] would be great!  I’m hoping to have a nice and organized “after” picture of my hall cabinet that I showed you last week.  Right now it’s nice and empty, so I still need to organize and put the stuff back in it […]
