I think it was way back in February that I was talking about doing a garbage inventory. Oops! I still haven’t gotten around to doing it.
Since we’re talking about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling this month, and now that the weather is a little nicer out and I can pile my garbage up outside instead of inside, I think I’m finally ready to tackle this garbage inventory thing again!
This week, or at least for the next few days, I’ll be keeping track of our garbage and putting it all together in one place. I would love it if you want to join with me in doing a garbage inventory too, and I’ll try to post some updates on my Facebook page and would love to hear how it’s going for you over there too.
Here’s how I’m planning my garbage inventory:
- Place one garbage can on the back porch.
- Either throw my garbage directly into the can or gather it together inside and to be added to the garbage can later.
- Write down everything that we throw away so I can get an idea of where our waste is coming from.
- Evaluate after a few days. What kind of waste are we creating? In what ways can we reduce our household waste?
As spring is (finally) in full swing around here, I think this is a great time of year to look at our household waste and come up with some creative ideas for how to reduce our waste.
