Ready to remove toxic cleaners from your home? Find out how!

 Green in 365 series

This is Day 5 of the Green in 365 series!

Throughout the Green in 365 series I want to answer questions that you have about how to go green in your lives and around your homes. I really want this series to be as helpful for you as it can be.

On the first Saturday of each month I’ll share what topics we will be covering over the coming weeks and ask for your questions. I’ll try to answer as many of them as I can, either in a post or through the comments.

So, for January, we will be covering the Entryway into our homes, our living/family rooms, and basics for going green in the winter time. If you have a question about one of those topics, please leave it for me in the comments. And if you have an answer to someone else’s question, please feel free to chime in! It’s so great for us all to be able to share our experiences with each other!

What questions can I answer for you as we get started with going green in our entryways, living rooms and for the winter?

Any tips on green ways to remove snow from sidewalks? The only one I know of is pushing away freshly fallen snow with a broom before anyone’s walked on it–this is easier than shoveling and gets the pavement cleaner, reducing development of ice that you’ll end up salting.

Hmm, that’s a good one ‘Becca. I was thinking about greener alternatives to rock salt for driveways and sidewalks, but we haven’t had much snow here this year for me to test anything out. I’ll have to look into that and see if I can come up with a good answer! Thanks for asking!

I’m wondering if you have any tips for cleaning dogs’ paws after taking a walk (in normal dry weather as well as snow or rainy weather). I know it’s easy for us to leave shoes at the door, but my dog is not comfortable with shoes so I have to wipe his paws after each walk. It’s a bigger issue when it rains and his paws and belly are both wet and dirty.

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi Tina,

We usually have a towel by our back door and try to wipe our dogs feet off as best as we can. We’ve been doing it since she was a puppy, so she’s pretty good about standing and waiting for us to do it before going into the house. Also, her dog bed is right inside the door and we usually have her lie down as soon as she comes in and I figure that helps to wipe her feet off at least a little bit. 🙂
