Father’s Day is right around the corner, have you decided on a present for your man yet? If not, check out this awesome and easy Homemade Shaving Cream.
Most of us have husbands who either have to, or choose to, shave their faces every day. Conventional shaving creams can not only be irritating and drying to their skin, but also expose them to toxic ingredients we generally try to avoid in our personal care products like phthalates, parabens, fragrance, sodium laurel sulfate, propylene glycol and more. We can show the men in our lives a little love on Father’s Day by making them a safe, non-toxic and soothing shaving cream that they can use everyday.
This homemade shaving cream uses ingredients you probably already have on hand, especially if you make other homemade beauty and personal care products, and it only takes about 10 minutes to whip up. (Plus some waiting time, but I can do other stuff while I’m waiting, so I don’t really count that!)
Homemade Shaving Cream: A Natural Father’s Day Gift
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup shea butter
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 2 Tbsp NOW Organic Almond Oil
- 1 tsp Vitamin E oil
- 15-20 drops essential oils
- 2 Tbsp castile soap
Directions:
1. Combine shea butter and coconut oil in a pan over low heat. Melt and stir together. Then add almond oil and essential oils and stir until combined.
You can use whatever essential oils you prefer. For my batch I used sandalwood because of it’s earthy tones and I knew I was going to use citrus castile soap, and that combination of scents smells amazing. You could also use clove, cedarwood, wild orange, eucalyptus, or any combination you think your man would enjoy.
2. Transfer mixture to a mixing bowl and place it in the fridge to cool and harden. Once the mixture is solid, pull it out and whip it up.
3. Whip the solid mixture with a stand mixer or hand mixer until it becomes light and fluffy. If your mixture is very cold, you may want to let it set out on the counter to warm up and soften just a bit to make the whipping easier.
4. Add the castile soap and whip up again until everything is combined. At this point, the mixture will be a little less light and fluffy, but still a great shaving cream texture.
5. Store the shaving cream in a clean glass jar in a cool, dry place.
Decorate the jar with some twine and give it your favorite guy on Father’s Day! Even if you’ve already picked out the perfect Father’s Day gift, you can mix up a batch of this to go with it. He will love it and love you for making it for him! And you can love knowing he’s shaving with safe, effective, and non-toxic ingredients that smell great too!

- NOW Herbal Revival Shampoo & Conditioner – I’ve used NOW shampoo and conditioner in the past and they have always worked really well for me and my hair type. This kind smells great and is good for dry or damaged hair, perfect for the summer time.
- NOW Xyli-White Neem & Tea Tree toothpaste – I appreciate that this toothpaste is flouride, SLS and paraben free. The flavor is minty without being overpowering and it leaves my mouth feeling fresh and clean.

Made this and loved it- both my husband and I used it! Makes your skin so soft- only issue we had was the cream was clogging up the razor- may try it again with a little less shea butter and see if that makes a difference unless you have any suggestions. Love it though! thanks for this post!
Wow, thanks for sharing the recipe! I am not really a fan of shaving cream but it is a good recipe to try in the future. What essential oil is best to mix together to leave a good scent after shaving?
