30 Practical Items to Pack in an Operation Christmas Child Box

November 15, 2015 By Emily McClements
Thank you for supporting this site with purchases made through links in this post.

Ready to remove toxic cleaners from your home? Find out how!

Instead of Operation Christmas Child, I am recommending you choose a gift from World Vision’s Gift Catalog this year.

Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend that you participate in Operation Christmas Child. I will not support or promote the ministry of an organization that is headed by Franklin Graham after his un-Christlike and anti-Gospel actions during this election year.

Also, here are 7 Reasons not to Participate in Operation Christmas Child this Year.

Hey! Just wanted to remind you about the soap that I saw in your shoebox! Irish Spring is heavily scented and not recommended for shoeboxes because the smell permeates everything in the box, even if the soap is in a ziplock bag. Ivory is a good option; all soap needs to be in a ziplock bag, and you can even double the bags! Thank you for packing OCC shoeboxes!!

I have not read that all soap needs to be in zip lock bags anywhere but here. I bought beautiful scented soaps for the teen girls and they were not packed in a plastic bag and I wanted the whole box to smell of lavender. I hope this is not a problem as I never read this as a rule anywhere but here. Thank you.

One year I forgot to take one of my OCC boxes to the distribution area and I found it the next year. In it I had a scented soap and I also had some gum in the same box. By the next year the gum and everything in the box SMELLED of the scented soap. I tasted one piece of gum and it tasted like the scent which wasn’t good. So that’s when I learned to double bag the soap and to not use a scented one.

Oh geez. Yes, let’s punish the needy children by not supporting an organization that benefits them just because the guy who started it said some things we don’t all agree with. Makes a TON of sense.
