I’m getting ready to start planning my garden this weekend. I want to make a list of what veggies I want to plant and grow and even map out where I’d like to plant in my new garden area.
I may even finally get around to starting some seeds indoors too. I’m not really behind, because we can’t really plant anything outside here until at least after April 1st, and some things even later than that. But, if I don’t get going now, then I am going to be cutting it close.
I still want to keep my garden simple and manageable, with a short list of the kinds of veggies we’ll be growing, although we will be planting a much larger space this year. I also have dreams of raspberries and strawberries!
I’m looking for some inspiration for what to plant. So today, I want to know:
What are you planning to plant, or have already planted (for you lucky ones who live in a warmer climate!), in your gardens this year? Veggies, herbs, fruit, anything else?
I’ll be sharing more about my garden plans over on my Facebook page, so be sure to head over there and join the conversation!
I have a ton of greens growing on my balcony – chards, spinaches, lettuces and kales.
Be careful when purchasing your seeds. Even though the packet might say “organic” it could still very well be a brand that’s owned by Monsanto. Ask questions!
Oh, thanks for the tip Mike! Are there any brands you know for sure to stay away from?
When planning our garden (which is about 8ftX12ft, I ask myself, “What do we eat a lot of? What’s easy to grow? What’s on the Dirty Dozen list?” That ends up being a lots of tomatoes, peppers, lettuces, broccoli, herbs, carrots, egg plant, zucchini. No fruit. My Dad is a farmer and grows blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. We also do local u-pick and freeze like crazy. Anything I don’t grow, I focus on buying abundantly at Farmer’s Markets over the summer and then can and preserve like crazy!
Hi Myah,
Those are great questions to ask when planning what to grow in your garden. We too try to use u-pick and the Farmer’s Market to buy in bulk and freeze and preserve the stuff we love. I didn’t get as much preserved last summer as I had hoped, so I have high intentions for this year to put up enough to last us through the year until next summer.
Thanks for your comment!
oops, not “a lots” and “egg plant”! 🙂 a lot and eggplant! Mom Brain?!
