This is Day 9 of the Green in 365 series!
Now that we’ve greened our entryway, the final thing to do is to make sure it’s clean and organized. And of course, we don’t want to use toxic, chemical filled cleaners, but we do want our home to look clean and smell fresh as guests enter.
Be sure to avoid toxic plug-in air fresheners, and instead use these tips to green clean and organize your entryway:
• Use a vinegar and water solution to clean as the vinegar will help to neutralize any odors that may be lurking around your entryway.
• If you have the space and the light, try adding a houseplant which will help to freshen the air and add a welcoming and warm feeling to your home (more about houseplants when we cover the living room in a few weeks).
• If you would like to add some scent to your entryway, choose non-toxic candles made from soy or beeswax (I like the candles from Soy Delights), or use essential oils by diluting with water in a small spray bottle and spritzing when needed, or placing several drops on a cotton ball and placing it in an unseen area of your entryway.
• Declutter your entryway to get rid of things that don’t really belong there, and make a place for everything that you need; like hooks for coats and keys, a place for purses, bags and backpacks, and bins for gear like hats and gloves in the winter and sunglasses in the summer. A decluttered and organized entryway goes a long way to helping our homes feel warm and inviting.
How do you create a warm and welcoming feeling in your entryway?
