Happy Valentine’s Day! How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? We’re not big celebrators here, we like the holiday, but don’t go crazy about it. Kaelyn made her Valentine cards for her class, they turned out cute and she’s excited about giving them to her friends. I’m not looking forward to all the candy that will be coming home with her tomorrow. Do you have any ideas for dealing with unwanted candy with your kiddos? (who happen to love candy, like any child would!)
Tonight after dinner we made some grain free brownies for a treat, since we have a church group tomorrow night, and they were pretty darn good. It was our first attempt at making a grain-free treat, and so I think our pallets will have to get used to the different texture, but they really did taste good.
Our family has been eating low/no-grain for about two weeks now, since hubs finished his 10 day juice fast. We’ve been doing about 80% no-grain, and trying to stay away from gluten all together, and are really happy with how we’ve been feeling. I’ve been collecting recipes on my Grain-Free Pinterest board, if you interested in following along. Also, would you be interested in hearing how the transition has gone for us?

Every week we each pick our favorite post to pin to the YGR Pinterest board, this week’s featured post is:
Which Soft Structured Carrier is Better: Ergo or Beco? from Eco-novice – I have been thinking about getting a soft-structured carrier for a while, and debating between these two. Also, my sister who is having her first baby next month was recently asking me about the best carrier to get, and I couldn’t tell her much about SSCs, because I don’t have one. I really liked reading Betsy’s comparison and advice for choosing a carrier that is right for you and your baby.

I’d love to hear about how your grain free transition has been going…I want to do the same, but not sure if I could get the rest of the family on board!
One option for the unwanted candy is to set aside just a few pieces for the kid, then crush/chop the rest and use it in a dessert to donate to a homeless shelter or serve at a potluck (where your family won’t eat all of it!).
I’m so glad you found my post helpful! I hate all the candy that comes home too — and for so many different holidays now. I don’t think any parent loves it and wish we could call a truce. I buy candy I feel better about or make cookies and try to convince my kids to trade. It’s all a big pain in the behind that I’d love to do without.
