This is Day 167 of the Green in 365 series!
Do you like to make lists? I do! I am a list making queen!
I love to make lists for all different aspects of my life – home management, kids, work, house projects, and everything else under the sun. I have notebooks that are just full of lists.
But, sometimes you want more than just a blank sheet of paper for your list, right? Sometimes you’d like a list that has space to input different things, or a list that already has some structure to it. List PlanIt is the place for every kind of list you could ever need. And they’ve recently added a really great feature that makes List PlanIt even more accessible and user-friendly!
List PlanIt has an amazing database of downloadable lists for all different areas of life; Home Management, Meal Planning, Financial Planning, Moving, Business Planning, Time Management and more! You can download the lists directly to your computer and then either print out your lists and write on them with your trusty pen or pencil, or type right onto the list and then print it out if you’d like a really clean looking list.
And now they also offer an online database of lists that you can add to your account, edit, change and save right online, and then access from any of your mobile devices! You can even add a List PlanIt app button to your screen that will take you right to your lists!
So, I can access my lists on my computer, and let’s say I’m making my meal plan for the week. I open my meal planning list online, fill out the meals and groceries I will need, and then save the list. Then, when I’m at the store, I can just pull up my list, see my meal plan and grocery list of the things I need!
Or maybe I’m spending some time brainstorming or planning future blog posts. I’m using the Blog Post Planner list and typing out my thoughts and ideas. Then later, after my work time is over and I’m away from my computer, inspiration strikes and I have a really awesome post idea. Again, I can open up List PlanIt on my iPhone (or iPad or Kindle) and make sure I jot down my awesome idea on my Blog Post Planner list before I forget it!
There are, of course, other list making sites available out there that are also mobile friendly, but the thing that stands out about List PlanIt is that the lists are pre-formatted for you, and the sheer number of different pre-formatted lists that are available both for download, and to use online, is one of the main reasons I am loving using List PlanIt!

This does sound very cool, for those times when you have constant computer access. Thinking of the environment, though, I have to encourage people to (a) avoid printing stuff, and (b) avoid depending on constant computer access. Paper comes from trees, paper recycling uses a lot of water and energy, printer toner contains nasty chemicals, and every moment you use your computer or smartphone or tablet uses electricity both for your device and for the server farms.
So I write most of my lists on the back of already-printed paper, with pencil, and have a designated location for the list so it doesn’t get lost. I don’t carry any electronic device with me on a regular basis but take paper lists for shopping, etc., and that works fine.
Where I do use electronic lists is for managing tasks that I do when I’m at the computer or iPad anyway, and for things (like tracking my donations to charity) where it’s handy to use a spreadsheet so that I can see the totals of various columns, alphabetize things, search, etc., without having to do all of that manually.
I don’t mean to put down List PlanIt–which does look great for those times when you need help setting up your list–but to nudge your readers to think about when they really need an electronic or printed list vs. being more green. You didn’t actually explain at all what makes List PlanIt a green idea. Am I missing something?
