One of my very favorite things about summer is milkshakes, smoothies and frozen drinks. Our family loves them so much that we use our blender on pretty much a daily basis. We make them for breakfast, snacks and sometimes even for a simple dinner with popcorn when mama’s feeling lazy, or it’s too hot to heat up the kitchen!
Recently I’ve been trying to find ways to add more protein to my kids’ diet, especially for my youngest daughter who has begun turning up her nose at meat and eggs. So I came up with this healthier version of one of our favorites, banana milkshakes. Usually I make banana milkshakes with vanilla ice cream, bananas and milk, but that includes a lot of sugar and fat (not that we are afraid of fats, but sometimes I just want to give my family something a bit healthier)
This vanilla or chocolate protein milkshake recipe uses yogurt, milk, ice and bananas to replicate the creaminess of the milkshake and the protein powder boosts the nutritional value even more. You can also add cocoa powder if chocolate milkshakes are more to your taste!
Healthy Banana or Chocolate Protein Milkshake
Ingredients
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cups ice
- 2 bananas – the riper the better, and frozen is great too!
- 1 scoop NOW Plant Protein Complex powder
- 1 Tbsp cocoa powder (optional)
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend well until smooth and creamy. Makes 4 servings.
Don’t forget to enjoy this delicious and healthy milkshake with stainless steel or glass straws!
I appreciate that NOW Plant Protein Complex powder is specifically formulated with a non-GMO vegan protein blend from Pea, Brown Rice, Hemp and Quinoa sources. Each 1 scoop serving provides 22 grams of protein, and typically has about 3,900 mg of branched chain amino acids and 1,800 mg of L-Arginine. And it is gluten and soy-free.
You could enjoy this milkshake for breakfast or just for an afternoon snack. It will also help to keep you cool on these hot summer days!
